Dry-stacked or mortared stone walls built from native limestone and fieldstone with careful fitting and a stable base.
Middle Tennessee is limestone country, and stone walls belong here. A well-built natural stone wall looks as if it grew out of the landscape, and it can last for generations when its base, drainage and fitting are right. Homeowners in Nashville choose natural stone for front yards, historic homes and gardens where character matters.
We begin with a Free Estimate and discuss the look you want, from rough fieldstone to neat stacked ledge. We select stone, prepare a compacted base, set large stones low, fit each course so joints overlap, add drainage and backfill behind and finish with cap stones. Taller or loaded stone walls are coordinated with an engineer, and some walls use mortar or concrete behind the face. Choosing stone is part of the fun, and part of the work. We can bring samples or visit a regional yard with you so you can see color, size and texture in daylight. Flat, tight-fitting stone gives a neat, formal wall, while irregular fieldstone gives a looser, rustic one. We also plan how the wall meets steps, driveways and plantings, so the finished piece feels natural rather than dropped in, and we leave planting pockets if you want ferns or creeping plants to soften the face.
Native stone brings texture and color that manufactured products imitate.
Each stone is placed so it locks with its neighbors and sheds load into the base.
Dry walls drain freely, and mortared walls give a tighter, more formal look.
A deep, compacted base and drainage keep the wall level through seasons.

You tell us what is wrong or what you want to build, and we set a visit that fits your day.
We walk the site, measure heights and lengths, look at soil and water paths and talk through what you want the space to do.
You receive a plain written scope with materials, drainage, engineering needs and the schedule before work begins.
We locate utilities, stake the wall line, excavate and build a compacted base that will carry the wall.
We build the wall course by course, add reinforcement as designed, install drains and place and compact clean backfill.
We add caps, steps and planting, clean up, restore the site and walk through the finished wall with you.
It often costs more because of material and labor, and many owners feel it is worth it for the look.
Short and moderate walls are common dry-stacked. Taller walls need engineering and different construction.
We work with regional quarries and yards, and you can view samples.
Not always. Dry-stacked walls can be very durable. Mortar suits some designs.
Even dry walls get gravel backfill so water does not build up.
