Questions

Retaining wall questions, answered plainly.

About walls, materials, drainage, permits, repair, schedules and bids.

Getting started

Is the estimate really free?

Yes. The Free Estimate comes with no obligation. You see a written scope before any work begins or anything is ordered.

What areas do you serve?

Nashville and nearby communities across Middle Tennessee, including Franklin, Brentwood, Hendersonville, Mt. Juliet, Smyrna and more. See the service areas page for the full list.

Do you work on homes and businesses?

Yes. We build garden and backyard walls, driveway and hillside walls, and commercial, industrial, multifamily and developer walls.

Can I hire you for a small wall?

Yes. Many projects are short garden or seat walls, and some grow into terraces over time.

Walls and materials

What materials do you build with?

Segmental block, poured concrete, masonry, natural stone, boulders, timber, gabions, brick and precast, depending on the site and your goals.

How tall can a wall be?

Many homeowner walls are short. Taller walls and walls with loads above often need engineered design and permits, and local rules decide.

Does every wall need drainage?

Most do. Water pressure is a leading cause of wall problems, so we plan pipe, clean stone, fabric and outlets for nearly every wall.

Can you build curves, steps and seating?

Yes. Curved walls, steps, caps and seat walls are common, and we plan them with the wall.

Repair and problems

My wall is leaning. Can it be saved?

Sometimes. It depends on the cause and how far it has moved. We inspect, explain what we see and give honest options.

What are warning signs of a failing wall?

Leaning, bulging, new or widening cracks, mud at the base, standing water and soil loss. Fast changes are urgent.

Do you respond to storm damage?

Yes. We check walls, clear drains, protect exposed soil and plan permanent repairs.

Permits and planning

Do I need a permit?

Taller walls, walls near structures or property lines and walls near streams often do. Local officials decide, and we help you find out.

Do I need an engineer?

Taller or heavily loaded walls usually do. We coordinate with engineers and build to the plans.

Can you help with HOA approval?

Yes. We prepare sketches, samples and descriptions that reviewers often ask for.

Cost and schedule

What drives the cost of a wall?

Height, length, materials, access, drainage, reinforcement, engineering and site conditions. A written scope shows exactly what is included.

How do I compare bids?

Ask each contractor for the same details: size, materials, base, drainage, reinforcement, engineering, permits and cleanup. Our bid scorecard helps you compare.

How long does a project take?

Small walls may take days. Larger projects take weeks, and permits, materials and weather can affect the schedule. We share a plan in writing.
