Retaining Wall Size and Material Calculator

Enter wall length and height to see face area, block count, base stone, drain pipe and geogrid layers to plan for.

These tools give planning-level estimates from typical values and the details you enter. They are not quotes or engineering, legal or safety advice, and results depend on your actual slope, soil, water, materials and choices. Taller and loaded walls often need engineered design and permits, and local rules decide. Only a conversation and a site visit can confirm what a project needs, and we give you a written estimate before work begins.

How it works

Four quick steps.

  1. 01

    Pick a starting point

Each preset loads a typical wall length, height and block size.

  2. 02

    Enter your measurements

Wall length and exposed height in feet.

  3. 03

    Choose the block size

    Small, standard or large block.

  4. 04

    Read the summary

See face area, block count, base stone, drain pipe, fabric and geogrid layers.

Tips

  • Measure along the base of the wall and the tallest exposed height.
  • Add a little extra for corners, curves and steps.
  • We turn measurements into a written scope and material list.
Questions

About this tool.

Is this exact?

No. Curves, steps, corners, soil and the block system change quantities. It is a planning estimate.

Does it include engineering?

No. Taller or loaded walls need engineered design, and the engineer sets reinforcement.

Can it plan stone or concrete walls?

The quantities assume a block wall. Stone and poured walls use different materials, and we price them separately.
